Hello future Interpreters,

This blog post is not about what a court interpreter does on a day to day but rather how to become court certified in the state Florida. As an interpreter training company we get plenty of phone calls from interested individuals who ask which steps they should be taking next. So here we are with an action plan for 2018- a guide to help you demystify the otherwise overwhelming
court interpreter certification process.

However if you are new to the world of interpretation and have never even considered this as a possible career path- welcome! Interpretation is an exciting opportunity, in fact – the average expected growth for most careers is about 7% in a ten year period. But according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job outlook for interpreters and translators is set to grow 18% (https://www.bls.gov/ooh/media-and-communication/interpreters-and-translators.htm). And the best part is that the path towards a well paying and meaningful career is very inexpensive compared to a traditional bachelors degree.

But before you get too excited, a word of warning: The test is not easy to pass and failing rates are high for first time takers. So that’s where we come in, we are here to better prepare you to take that certification test and help you achieve your interpretation goals.

Also an important clarification: We do not teach language skills. You must already posses a higher level of conversational fluency in both English and your target/native language.

All of these things considered, if you are committed and stick to the following guide you may be able to achieve certification within a year’s time. Oh and the cost you may ask? It is mentioned in the title of this blog/article that you can get certified and properly prepared (by us) for less the $1,300.00 and that is true! however, that price can range from $1,300-$2,000 which is still a fraction of the price of a bachelors degree.
